City & Guilds Additional Holding

Knightwood Training’s additional holding programme is delivered in association with Maybo, Skills for Security and City & Guilds. This course is designed as a follow on to the SIA licence-linked qualifications for Door Supervisors/Security Officers (Physical Intervention module). The programme can be delivered either in-house or at our Head Office.

The techniques are designed to provide restrictive controls for individuals held horizontally or on the ground. In some settings, even with other controls in place, horizontally restraint is reduced but foreseeable. Knightwood training emphasises the alternatives, but also recognises that such restraint is likely to occur, staff must be taught methods that help reduce risk to themselves and service users.

The aim of this training is to help staff learn a range of methods for establishing physical control where lawful, appropriate and necessary. This will be achieve through using the least aversive and intrusive method that can safely achieve the objective. Physical controls are a last resort when other strategies have failed or are likely to fail and intervention should cease or be de-escalated at the earliest opportunity.

Staff should take into account the conduct and state of the individual and potential risks involved to the individual and /or staff, in releasing them or modifying the hold to one that is less restrictive.
