City & Guilds Mechanical Restraint Course

Introduction

Mechanical Restraint is the broad term to cover various types of equipment that are used to restrict an individual’s movement. The use of mechanical restraint is increasing across many sectors, including the security business sector and the wider policing family. Although there are no laws preventing employees carrying hand cuffs, the decision to issue them should not be taken lightly. Employers that provide such equipment have a duty to provide adequate training & guidance in their use. Staff must use them lawfully and account for their actions.

This award will assist various Enforcement Personnel by helping them identify conflict and give them the verbal skills and tactics to defuse conflict situations. In cases where this fails and the lawful use of force is an option or a lawful arrest is required, they can apply court defensible tactical communication, physical control.
